Rotary Recycling Centre Hosts Annual Free Christmas Tree Chipping

The woodchipper is gassed up and ready to go – Christmas Tree Chipping is back! The Rotary Recycling Centre will be collecting Christmas trees for free chipping.

Stony Plain residents can bring Christmas trees to the Rotary Recycling Centre (4505 50 Avenue) between December 23 and January 22 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to be chipped and disposed of at no cost. All trees must be unwrapped and free of any decorations before being placed in the bin.

“The tree chipping program is a great green initiative that reduces the number of trees sent to the landfill and ties in nicely with the Town’s ongoing Don’t Just Trash It! waste reduction campaign. It also creates a convenient way for residents to dispose of their Christmas trees at no cost,” says Mayor William Choy.

“All the trees collected at the Rotary Recycling Centre will be chipped and disposed of through the organics program. It really is a hassle-free option for disposing of the tree after the holidays!” says Supervisor of Utilities and Environment Doug Fraser.

All trees need to be dropped off at the Rotary Recycling Centre by the end of day January 22. Trees will not be accepted after this date. Visit the Stony Plain website for more information on waste disposal and recycling in the community.
