Snow Removal Update- December 25, 2025
Snow plowing and ice control operations are ongoing across Stony Plain as crews continue working through the Christmas break to help keep roads safe and accessible for residents. Following recent snowfall, crews are focused on plowing and sanding arterial roads, school zones, and collector roads.
The sanding crews focused on arterial, school zones, collector and downtown roads Thursday, December 25, while the grader focused its efforts on plowing arterial roads. Plowing and sanding operations are planned to continue on priority roads on Friday, December 26.
What’s an arterial, school zone, downtown or collector road? For an overview of how roadways are classified, residents can view the Snow and Ice Control Map which provides a colour-coded breakdown.
Snow removal (hauling) operations are planned to begin on Saturday, December 27.
Snow depths on residential streets will be measured on Friday, December 26. Based on current conditions, residential snow removal is anticipated to begin on Monday, January 5, 2026, pending confirmation once snowpack measurements are completed. A further update will be shared once this assessment is finalized.
Snow plowing and snow removal follow Council-approved service standards and are completed based on roadway priority and compacted snow thresholds. Residential snow removal is scheduled only after these thresholds are met and follows an annually adjusted neighbourhood rotation.
Residents are encouraged to visit stonyplain.com/snow and subscribe to the Snow Removal Newsfeed to receive confirmed schedules and updates. When residential snow removal is scheduled, residents must remove vehicles and other barriers, including driveway ramps and basketball hoops, from roadways.
The Town of Stony Plain thanks its snow removal operators and all Public Works staff who continue working through the holiday period to support community safety.
