Stony Plain Celebrates Month of the Artist

This September marks the third annual Month of the Artist, and an array of colourful events are coming to Stony Plain.

Month of the Artist is a province-wide celebration of artists and the value they bring to communities, both socially and economically. The campaign works to highlight Albertan artists and acknowledge the role of the arts in creating healthy, vibrant, and prosperous communities. Stony Plain will honour the month with a series of free artistic and cultural events that showcase artists and public art engagement opportunities.

“Stony Plain is home to a rich artistic community whose work is at the heart of the Stony Plain spirit. Local artists play such an important role not only in promoting arts and culture, but also in growing the local economy and attracting regional tourism,” says Mayor William Choy.

Local celebrations this September include:

  • Launch of a new public art project featuring magpie sculptures on display throughout the community
  • Unveiling of a new mural at the Stony Plain Public Library on September 23
  • Alberta Culture Days celebration from September 23 – 25 featuring a harvest fest, Taste of Downtown, Indigenous storytelling, and more.

“We have an incredibly active artistic community in Stony Plain who continue to grow local culture and foster engagement in the arts. The Month of the Artist presents an opportunity for the community to come together to recognize and celebrate artists and their contributions to Stony Plain,” says Culture and Tourism Development Officer.

Event details and schedules will be announced in the weeks ahead. Visit the Stony Plain website to learn more about upcoming events and arts and culture in the community.
