Stony Plain Receives Fourteenth Consecutive Canadian Award for Financial Reporting

STONY PLAIN, AB: The Town of Stony Plain has once again been recognized for excellence in financial reporting. The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the Town’s 2024 Annual Report the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR), marking the fourteenth consecutive year the Town has received the honour.

The CAnFR recognizes municipalities whose annual reports go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles. Reports are evaluated on organization, clarity, and their ability to clearly communicate a municipality’s financial performance to residents and stakeholders.

“This recognition reflects the Town’s continued commitment to strong financial management and transparency,” says Teri Stewart, Manager of Financial Services. “Preparing the Annual Report is a collaborative effort across the organization, and we are proud to present financial information in a way that helps residents better understand how public funds are managed and invested in our community.”

“The Annual Report is an important way we share the Town’s story with residents,” says Stephanie Barsby Boisvert, Manager of Corporate Communications. “Our goal is to present complex financial information in a format that is clear, accessible, and engaging so residents can easily understand how their municipality is performing.”

The CAnFR is valid for one year. The Town intends to submit the 2025 Annual Report to the GFOA in June 2026 for consideration.
