Stony Plain is pleased to announce above-average construction activity as it enters the 2024 construction season, indicating a promising start to the year.
Recent data indicates a notable uptick in residential and commercial permits, reflecting Stony Plain’s dynamic development landscape. The construction activity is not just a sign of growth but also a promising economic boost for the community. A total of 32 new residential dwelling permits were issued, boasting a combined construction value of $9.6 million. A significant commercial permit valued at $5.7 million was also issued. Additionally, 47 permits for alterations and additions with an approximate value of $2 million were issued. Among these, 42 were for residential improvements, 3 for commercial enhancements, and 2 for industrial modifications.
Miles Dibble, Stony Plain's Planning and Development Manager, commented, "We're pleased to observe above-average residential development activity, particularly in areas such as The Brickyard and Westerra, situated in Stony Plain’s East and South. Notably, Fairways North, Genesis on the Lakes, and South Creek also show positive activity."
Echoing this sentiment, Michelle Levasseur, Economic Development Officer, highlighted the increasing interest in commercial and industrial projects. "Stony Plain's allure as a vibrant and growing community is attracting heightened commercial and industrial interest. With Alberta experiencing its highest interprovincial migration in over four decades, Stony Plain is emerging as an enticing option for residential and non-residential development."
Mayor William Choy emphasized the Town's dedication to leading the community’s growth. "Developers in Stony Plain are working diligently to meet demand. As our town continues to expand, so do the opportunities for development. I encourage developers seeking promising ventures to explore Stony Plain."
