Stony Plain Unites for “Walking Together for Truth and Reconciliation” Event
STONY PLAIN, AB: Stony Plain, Parkland County, and Community Partners are proud to announce the upcoming “Walking Together for Truth and Reconciliation” event, a profound and unifying experience on September 30, 2023, with registration starting at 9:00 AM, and the walk from 9:30 AM-12:30 PM at Heritage Park in Stony Plain.
The heart of this event is a 1.5 km community walk, where residents are invited to don their orange shirts and join to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The walk will provide a unique opportunity for all participants to reflect, remember, and honour the legacy of residential schools.
After the walk, the community will come together to listen, share, and connect with one another, symbolizing the spirit of reconciliation that has taken root in Stony Plain. This gathering is a testament to the commitment of Stony Plain to connection, building bridges, and inspiring hope.
“The ‘Walking Together for Truth & Reconciliation’ event is an embodiment of our town’s commitment to understanding our history and fostering unity,” says Mayor William Choy. “By walking side by side, we symbolize our collective journey toward healing and reconciliation.”
The event will conclude with a free feast, providing opportunity for participants to share a meal and continue conversations about the importance of reconciliation within the community.
“We believe that reconciliation is a journey that we must embark upon together,” says Community Development Officer Deanna Butz. “This event is more than just a walk; it’s about forging connections, building bridges between communities, and inspiring hope for a brighter and more inclusive future.”
