Stony Plain Updates Priorities in Advance of the Provincial Election
STONY PLAIN, AB: Council highlighted the importance of residents to consider provincial government support for the proposed Community Recreation Centre and WestView Health Centre when voting in the upcoming May 29th election at last night’s Council meeting.
Following the approval of the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, a workshop was facilitated with Council and Administration to review priorities for provincial partnership and support to update Stony Plain’s Advocacy Plan in the lead up to the upcoming election. Ongoing effort will continue to be placed on communicating these priorities to the provincial government, as well as other key stakeholders, over the next number of months.
It is crucial for Stony Plain Council to outline its key strategic priorities for advocacy with the Government of Alberta. Thus, the Advocacy Plan has been updated to reflect requests for provincial support and partnership in the following strategic priorities:
Investment in a new Stony Plain Community Recreation Centre
An investment in recreation is an investment in residents’ individual health. This new facility will fulfill the region’s indoor recreation needs and support meaningful and accessible recreation experiences. These experiences foster individual and community health and wellbeing and provide opportunities for life-long participation and economic diversification. The time is now to deliver on this critical piece of community infrastructure that benefits Stony Plain and the surrounding region.
Improve access to and services from WestView Health Centre
Investing in the WestView Health Centre can support improved healthcare access for residents across the region. Given that healthcare access is a priority for residents and governments alike, WestView Health Centre provides an opportunity to augment existing healthcare services and relieve pressure on surrounding hospitals and clinics, ensuring that patients in rural areas can enjoy more convenient and efficient services and better healthcare outcomes. From diagnostics to expansion, working with the Government of Alberta and healthcare providers collaboratively, to identify the best investments in this facility is critical for addressing healthcare challenges in the area.
“WestView Health Centre and a new Stony Plain Recreation Centre are absolutely vital to achieving our vision of a strong, vibrant community representative of what makes us uniquely Stony Plain,” says Mayor William Choy. “We are dedicated to working together with the province in order to establish mutually beneficial relationships and lasting agreements to help Stony Plain continue to grow and thrive.”
