Terry Fox Week - September 14 to September 20, 2026

WHEREAS On April 12, 1980, Terry Fox undertook his Marathon of Hope, moved by his experience in the cancer ward where a few children had given up on the hope of a cure; and

WHEREAS 2026 is the 46th Anniversary of The Terry Fox Run for Cancer research that has raised more than $850 Million, across Canada, and in over 50 countries throughout the world; and

WHEREAS as Terry said, "I want to set an example that will never be forgotten. It's got to keep going without me."; and

WHEREAS the Terry Fox Run will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in Jubilee Park. This event gives Stony Plain an opportunity to get involved in the efforts to find a cure for cancer, a disease with devastating effects that has been felt by so many people. As Terry said, "The answer is to try and help others."

THEREFORE, I, Mayor William Choy of the Town of Stony Plain, do hereby proclaim September 14 to 20, 2026, as “Terry Fox Week.”
