Terry Fox Week — September 8 to 14, 2025

WHEREAS in September, Canadians continue Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope which he began when he dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean on April 12,1980 and proceeded to unite Canadians; and

WHEREAS on September 1, 1980, cancer returned to Terry’s lungs and his run ended; and

WHEREAS Terry’s words echo with Canadians today: “Even if I don't finish, we need others to continue. It's got to keep going”; and

WHEREAS the Terry Fox Run will take place on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in Jubilee Park. This event gives Stony Plain an opportunity to be involved in the efforts to find a cure for cancer, a disease whose devastating effects have been felt by so many people. As Terry said, "The answer is to try and help others."

THEREFORE, I, Mayor William Choy of the Town of Stony Plain, do hereby proclaim September 8 to 14, 2025, as “Terry Fox Week.”
