The Town of Stony Plain Welcomes Applications for A New Artist Laureate

STONY PLAIN, AB: The Town of Stony Plain is dedicated to celebrating local arts, culture and creativity through the launch of its new Artist Laureate Program. This initiative offers a unique opportunity for a local artist to advance their practice and engage with the community.

The Artist Laureate Program expands on the previous Poet Laureate Program by allowing a broader range of artistic disciplines to participate, including photography, videography, and performing, visual, and literary arts.

The program enables artists to share their skills by providing meaningful work opportunities that foster collaboration and creative growth. It enhances public access to the arts by encouraging community engagement and diverse artistic expression reflecting the Town’s vibrant identity.

“The Town is proud to support arts and culture in our community,” says Mayor William Choy. “The Artist Laureate Program reflects our continued commitment to fostering creativity and recognizing the important role artists play in shaping our identity.”

Applications for the Artist Laureate Program open on March 30, 2026, and close April 24, 2026. The selected artist will serve a one-year term as the Town of Stony Plain’s Artist Laureate beginning in May 2026.

“The Program provides an opportunity for artists to further develop their practice,” says Chantelle Laberge, Culture and Tourism Development Officer. “It advances the Town’s public art program by integrating artistic practice into community spaces and experiences.”

Artist Laureates are required to have previously provided significant contributions to their

respective fields and must meet established eligibility requirements.
