Third Quarter Development Highlights Continued Growth and Community Confidence in Stony Plain

STONY PLAIN, AB: Stony Plain continues to experience steady growth across residential, industrial, and commercial sectors as development activity remains strong through the third quarter of 2025.

In the third quarter of 2025, the Town issued 43 residential permits valued at $13.1 million and 74 permits for alterations and additions valued at $2.8 million. Industrial development has also seen significant momentum this year, with two industrial permits issued in the third quarter alone, totaling $5.2 million in estimated construction value.

Mayor William Choy says the consistent activity demonstrates optimism in the community and region. “These numbers show that people see Stony Plain as a place to live, work, and build,” says Mayor Choy. “We’re proud to see families, entrepreneurs, and investors contributing to a growing and vibrant community. “As we move into the final months of the year, residents will start to see more signs of this momentum, literally, as new commercial signage begins to appear in the North Business Park, promoting opportunities and new businesses coming to town.”

Economic Development Manager Michelle Levasseur says, “the growth reflects both the Town’s long-term planning and a strengthening investment climate. We are seeing sustained interest in new industrial and commercial developments, particularly in areas like the North Business Park and Old Town,” says Levasseur. “There’s real momentum building as land development continues to prepare sites for new retail and service opportunities in the year ahead. There’s nearly 200,000 square feet of new retail space projected for these key areas, encompassing large-format and complementary retail opportunities. It’s exciting to see this momentum building and to know, Stony Plain will continue welcoming new business and investment in the year ahead.”

The Town’s Planning and Infrastructure teams continue to work closely with developers and the Government of Alberta to support future growth. Planning includes major infrastructure coordination such as the extension of 28 Street north of Highway 16A and the development of a new intersection to accommodate expected commercial activity in the area.

“Our focus remains on thoughtful, well-serviced growth, supporting residents and businesses alike,” adds Town Manager Tom Goulden. “We’re ensuring our community continues to thrive as investment increases.”

As Stony Plain moves into the final quarter of the year, the Town remains focused on preparing for future opportunities, strengthening the community’s commercial and service offerings. The Town remains committed to supporting balanced, sustainable development, strengthening the community’s economic foundation and quality of life.
