Town of Stony Plain Lowers Flags in Honour of Those Affected by CFB Wainwright Tragedy
STONY PLAIN, AB: Council, staff, and the community of Stony Plain mourn alongside Canadians across the country following the tragic events of October 17 at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright.
“On behalf of Council and the community of Stony Plain, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and fellow service members of those who lost their lives,” says Mayor William Choy. “Our thoughts are also with those who were injured, their loved ones, and everyone affected by this tragedy. We stand alongside the Canadian Armed Forces and the Wainwright community during this difficult time.”
We are deeply grateful to the first responders, medical teams, municipal staff, and others who responded with urgency and care in Wainwright, Edmonton, and elsewhere to support those affected.
This tragedy is a reminder of the risks and sacrifices the brave men and women of the Canadian Forces make in training and in service to our country. Our community stands in gratitude with all those who serve and those who have served.
As a gesture of respect and remembrance, flags at Town facilities have been lowered to half-mast in honour of all those affected by this tragedy.
