Town of Stony Plain Unveils 12th Annual Limited-Edition Christmas Ornament
STONY PLAIN, AB: The holiday season is just around the corner, and with that comes a much-loved local tradition. The Town of Stony Plain is pleased to announce the release of its 12th annual Limited-Edition Christmas Ornament, a special gift for residents that celebrates both community spirit and local artistry.
The Town’s Christmas Ornament Program has been a Stony Plain favourite for over a decade, offering residents the chance to build a collection of locally designed keepsakes. This year’s ornament is handcrafted from repurposed leather by local artisan Lisa Cordell, with a design that captures the warmth and simplicity of Christmases past. Lisa, owner of Longhurst Leather, has lived in the area since she was five, and some may have encountered her work through the radio straps she provides to local firefighters.
“Every year, our Christmas Ornament program highlights the incredible talent we have in and around Stony Plain ,” says Mayor William Choy. “These works of art have become a symbol of civic pride and holiday spirit. They are a small token of appreciation for our residents and a reminder of the history and traditions that make our community what it is.”
Residents are invited to pick up their free ornament (one per household) beginning today, November 17, at Town Hall (4905 51 Avenue). After the launch, ornaments will continue to be available Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, while supplies last. Only 250 ornaments are available, and colour selection is unavailable.
“This program has become a meaningful part of how we engage artists in our region and connect creative practice with community life,” said Culture and Tourism Development Officer, Chantelle Laberge. “It reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a strong cultural sector and supporting the creators who contribute to Stony Plain’s cultural landscape.”
