Town of Stony Plain Welcomes a New Mural to Old Town

STONY PLAIN, AB: September 19, 2026, the Town of Stony Plain and the Parkland Potters’ Guild unveiled its newest mural: Rooted in Clay. In celebration of Alberta Culture Days and the Parkland Potters’ Guild’s 50th anniversary, the mural was recognized as a new community landmark. 

Located at 4912 51 Ave, the Parkland Potters’ Guild was started in 1976 with a handful of people, nurturing and teaching those in the community the art of clay. 

“Since the beginning, we became rooted in this place,” says Guild Member, Nadine Lapointe. “This mural represents our longstanding contribution to the community and ongoing legacy of the Parkland Potters’ Guild.” 

Twelve artists worked on the Rooted in Clay mural and many of the 65 members of the Guild were able to contribute their own leaf, some of which commemorate those who have passed and new members yet to join.

“Welcoming a new mural is always a significant moment for the community,” says Mayor William Choy. “Murals become part of the fabric of our town, bringing stories, history, and community pride to life. Rooted in Clay will hold a special place in our community, honouring the lasting impact of the Parkland Potters’ Guild and their contributions over the past 50 years.”  

“Public art is one of the many foundations of the community,” says Culture and Tourism Development Officer, Chantelle Laberge. “New murals celebrate who we are today while preserving stories that have shaped our town. They create meaningful opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with our heritage and sense of place.”
