Water Pressure Restored Following Power Outage
STONY PLAIN, AB: Water pressure has been restored to Stony Plain following a temporary disruption earlier today.
This occurred after a brief power outage at the Meridian Reservoir, which supplies water to the community. Backup pumping was activated quickly to maintain service, and our Utilities team is continuing to monitor the system closely.
The cause of the power outage remains unknown and is under investigation. As a precaution, the Town has been working with Alberta Environment and Alberta Public Health to determine next steps and ensure all safety protocols are followed.
The water remains safe to drink, and residents can continue using it as normal. The Town is not under a boil water advisory, and there are currently no concerns about water quality.
As a precautionary measure, the Town is conducting additional water testing in consultation with Alberta Environment and Alberta Public Health. This includes collecting five extra bacteriological samples across different areas of Town and monitoring turbidity and chlorine levels.
“The safety of our community’s water system is our top priority,” says Doug Fraser, Supervisor of Utilities and Environment. “While the system is operating normally and the water is safe, we’re testing and monitoring to ensure full confidence.”
If residents experience cloudy or discoloured water, they are advised to run a cold-water tap (preferably a bathtub faucet) until the water clears. If discolouration lasts longer than 20 minutes, please contact Public Works at 780-963-2469.
This incident highlights the importance of the Meridian Heights Reservoir Project, which is currently underway to strengthen and modernize our community’s water infrastructure.
The Town appreciate your patience and understanding. Updates will be provided through the Town Newsroom and Facebook.
Power outages can be reported to Fortis Alberta.
