We’re In It Together: Emergency Preparedness Day returns May 9
STONY PLAIN, AB: During Emergency Preparedness Week (May 4 to 10), take the time to learn how you and your family can stay safe when the unexpected happens. On Saturday, May 9 from 10 AM to 3 PM, stop by outside of Stony Plain Town Hall (4905 51 Avenue) for Emergency Preparedness Day. Enjoy a free, family-friendly event featuring hands-on activities, safety education, and opportunities to connect with local first responders.
“Knowing what to do in an emergency can make all the difference,” says Mayor William Choy. “We’re not immune to emergencies, and Emergency Preparedness Day is about giving people practical, easy-to-understand information so they feel more confident and ready if something happens.”
Attendees can expect a range of activities for all ages, including:
• Interactive booths with emergency preparedness information
• Equipment displays from emergency agencies across the Tri-Region
• Photo opportunities with first responders and emergency vehicles
• Appearances by Sparky the Fire Dog
• Stony Plain Youth Centre BBQ and concession
“Preparedness doesn’t have to be complicated,” says Fire Chief Jason Nesbitt. “Even small steps, like having a plan, a 72 hour emergency kit, or knowing where to find reliable information can have a big impact. We want people to leave this event feeling informed and capable.”
