Canada Day Fireworks Show Adjusted for New Guidelines

June 23, 2021 UPDATE: The Canada Day fireworks show at Heritage Park is being reworked to align with provincial public health guidelines.

As outlined in the Government of Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan, all public health restrictions will be lifted on July 1. In response, the Canada Day fireworks show will no longer be a drive-in requiring registration, and instead will be open to the public with the grounds accessible by foot. Registration is not required. The show will begin at 10:30PM on July 1.

Canada Day celebrations are on their way! The Town is preparing for a regional celebration along with local festivities including at-home activities and a drive-in fireworks show.

As part of a regional Canada Day celebration, an activity booklet will be available online or for pickup at Town Office. The booklet includes crafts, recipes, a scavenger hunt, and more great activities to enjoy from home. The Town has also prepared a take-home kite building kit for local families and is preparing for a drive-in fireworks show at Heritage Park on July 1.

“We’re working to create safe and fun activities for our community to enjoy this year. There will be plenty of activities for residents to engage with and also opportunities to get out and enjoy quality time outside with the family,” says Event Coordinator Tevra Graham.

“It’s great to be able to celebrate together, even if we have to be distanced. Having our local events adjusted to accommodate health guidelines is so important for fostering the Stony Plain spirit and staying connected as a community,” says Mayor William Choy.

Canada Day events are free, but residents will be required to register for both the kite building kit and the fireworks show. Residents can register to receive a kite kit by filling out an online form on the Town website while supplies last. Registration will close on June 12 and kites will be ready for pick up at Town Office on June 28 and June 29 during regular business hours. Registration for the drive-in fireworks show at Heritage Park will open on June 26 at 12PM. Tickets are free, but capacity is limited.
