Celebrate Volunteers During National Volunteer Week
STONY PLAIN, AB: The Town of Stony Plain is recognizing National Volunteer Week, a Canada-wide initiative led by Volunteer Canada, taking place April 19 to 25, 2026. The week provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of volunteers who support and strengthen the community.
This year’s theme, “Ignite Volunteerism,” encourages residents to explore new ways to get involved through acts of service, civic participation, and community connection.
“Volunteers are essential to the strength and vibrancy of our community,” says Mayor William Choy. “National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize their contributions and thank the many individuals who give their time to support others across Stony Plain.”
“Volunteers play an important role in building a connected and supportive community,” says Community Development Officer Deanna Butz. “This week also encourages more residents to get involved and explore how they can contribute.”
As part of National Volunteer Week, the Town will host two community events:
Sips and Slices: Volunteer Appreciation Event
• April 22 from 4 PM to 5:30 PM
• Heritage Park
• This drop-in event will include an address from Mayor and Council at 4:30 PM, light refreshments, and an opportunity for volunteers to connect
Volunteers Make Waves! Sponsored Toonie Swim (All ages)
• April 25 from 6 PM to 9 PM
• TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre
Throughout the week, residents can also visit the Stony Plain Public Library to learn more about local volunteer opportunities.
Volunteer appreciation pins will be available from the Town of Stony Plain Community and Social Development Office (4613 52 Avenue, Unit 107, Stony Plain). Volunteers can present their pins at participating local businesses during National Volunteer Week to receive special offers, recognizing their contributions and helping raise awareness of volunteerism in the community.
National Volunteer Week also serves as an opportunity for residents to learn more about how they can get involved. By volunteering, residents contribute to a stronger, more connected Stony Plain.
