Community Invited to Share Input on South Park Drive Concept

Work is underway to complete South Park Drive around Westview Health Centre, and the Town is inviting residents to provide feedback on a proposed subdivision concept. An open house will be held on April 6 from 5PM to 8PM at the Best Western Sunrise Inn & Suites (3101 43 Avenue).

The proposed subdivision concept considers subdividing the northern portion of the lot adjacent to South Park Drive into three sections while maintaining the southern portion for recreational purposes. The northern section would be redeveloped to include a new serviced lot to be sold to private development, a linear park to act as a buffer between the serviced lot and Silverstone, and a road right of way to complete a second access to Silverstone.

“Completing South Park Drive and redeveloping the adjacent Town land will increase connectivity in the South Business Park and the Silverstone neighbourhood. We are currently considering different options for new amenities for the southern section of the lot, which we will be maintaining for recreational use,” says Manager of Planning and Development Miles Dibble. “The proposed redevelopment will help offset construction costs and allow development and future expansion of the Westview Health Centre.”

“The design of South Park Drive is a key action item in the Corporate Plan for 2022. I encourage residents to join us for the open house to learn more about the proposed concept and use the upcoming public participation opportunities to make their opinions heard,” says Mayor William Choy.

The project encompasses updates to the South Business Park Area Structure Plan and the Land Use Bylaw, both slated for a first reading at the May 9 Council Meeting. A public hearing along with second and third readings are anticipated to take place at the June 27 Council Meeting.

The open house on April 6 will provide community members with an opportunity to learn more about the project and provide input. An online survey will be available to residents following the open house as an additional opportunity to share feedback on the proposed concept.
