Council Meeting Highlights for August 28, 2023

Traffic Bylaw 2677/G/23 Given 1st Reading

Bylaws are reviewed on a prescribed schedule to ensure the effectiveness and relevancy of the bylaw. Traffic Bylaw 2560/TR/16 has been reviewed and amendments have been recommended to improve the enforcement of the Bylaw in coordination with the Municipal Government Act. Bylaws implemented by a municipality typically include regulations not included in existing legislation or implement stronger regulations than legislation.

At last night’s meeting, Council gave first reading to the proposed Traffic Bylaw 2677/G/23. The Bylaw will return to Council at the September 25 Regular Meeting for second and third readings.

Town of Stony Plain Health and Safety Policy Update Approved by Council

The Town of Stony Plain believes that safety is a personal and organizational accountability, with safety as a core value of the organization. The Health and Safety Policy was updated by Administration. A comprehensive review of Health and Safety Policies and best practices from surrounding municipalities was conducted before the revised version was presented to Council at last night's meeting.

Council approved the presented Health and Safety Policy.

Organizational Development Strategy Overview Presented to Council for Information

Administration presented an overview of the Organizational Development Strategy to Council for information.

Organizational success requires the ability to action three fundamental concepts: establishing vision, creating alignment, and enabling execution. This Strategy will develop and refine an overarching philosophy and guiding principles to create a document that is shared by Town Council, the Town Manager, and the Town’s Senior Leadership Team to support the Town’s ability to deliver results and achieve desired outcomes. This project has begun with consultant support and will unfold into Q2 of 2024. Future progress reporting will be included in public quarterly and annual reports.

2023 Second Quarterly Report Presented to Council

The second Quarterly Report of 2023 has been presented to Council. Quarterly reports are comprehensive reporting tools that serve as benchmarks for the ongoing operation of the Town of Stony Plain. Throughout the year, reports are compiled to track progress toward strategic goals and highlight achievements across the organization.
