Discover, Experience, & Celebrate During Alberta Culture Days in Stony Plain

STONY PLAIN, AB: Alberta Culture Days are returning to Stony Plain with a vibrant lineup of events throughout the month of September to showcase the community's rich culture. Residents and visitors are invited to explore arts, culture, and heritage through a variety of engaging activities hosted across town.

In partnership with local businesses, Parkland Potters' Guild, Stony Plain & Parkland Pioneer Museum, Stony Plain Public Library, Red Brick Common, and Parkland Poets’ Society, the Town of Stony Plain is proud to support and promote five days packed with opportunities to experience and celebrate the diversity that defines our community.

“Alberta Culture Days is a chance to celebrate the creativity, traditions, and stories that make Stony Plain unique,” says Mayor William Choy. “These events shine a light on our vibrant arts and culture scene while building connections with the people, businesses, and organizations that shape our town.”

The celebration kicks off on Saturday, September 6 with the Author Fair at Stony Plain Public Library, where attendees will have the chance to meet local authors, explore new books, and engage in discussions about the creative process.

The festivities continue Saturday, September 13 with a Poetry Treasure Hunt, hosted by Parkland Poets’ Society, and a Youth Writers Workshop at the Stony Plain Public Library on Tuesday, September 16.

On Saturday, September 20, a series of events will be hosted across town to immerse participants in the rich cultural and historical fabric of Stony Plain and the surrounding area:

  • Harvest Festival: The Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum will host an old-fashioned harvest celebration, complete with threshing demonstrations, vintage machinery, blacksmithing, and more.
  • Tipi Teachings: Elder Phillip Campiou of Driftpile First Nation will guide participants in learning about the traditional significance of the tipi, followed by an immersive Bannock-making demonstration.
  • Pottery Demonstrations and Studio Tour: Visitors can explore the Guild’s studio, witness the pottery-making process, and take home a handcrafted piece.
  • Horse and Wagon Mural Tours: Pre-registered guests can enjoy a guided tour of Stony Plain’s historic murals aboard a horse-drawn wagon.
  • Ukrainian Dance Performance: Experience the vibrant culture of the Ukrainian community with a dance performance by KaRAR Performing Arts at the Stony Plain Public Library.
  • Red Brick Common Open House: Explore the grounds and learn how the Red Brick Common preserves the history and culture of our town and the surrounding area.

The month-long celebration culminates with a Puppet Show and Puppet-Making Workshop at the Stony Plain Public Library on Monday, September 29.

“Our arts and culture community is full of talent and passion, and Alberta Culture Days gives us the perfect stage to share that with everyone,” says Chantelle Laberge, Culture & Tourism Development Officer. “We invite residents and visitors alike to join in the celebrations, explore our heritage, and experience the diversity that makes Stony Plain such a welcoming place.”
