Gather and Grow Day: Bringing Neighbours Together for a Greener Stony Plain
STONY PLAIN, AB: Get to know your neighbours and help plant trees for a greener Stony Plain during Gather and Grow Day on September 21 in Brown Street Park!
This event combines two annual events: Neighbours’ Day and Arbour Day, which were first held together in 2023. Gather and Grow Day will take place on September 21 from 11 AM to 1 PM in Brown Street Park, located on the corner of Brown Street and 51 Avenue. Attendees can enjoy a variety of activities including crafts, tree planting, and a chance to win a rain barrel and saskatoon bushes! Bring a painted rock to contribute to the creation of a 'rock snake,' which will be assembled in the park during the event.
“Gather and Grow Day will include all of the elements of Arbour Day and Neighbours’ Day residents have come to enjoy over the years,” says Mayor William Choy. “It’s a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends, meet new neighbours, and plant trees to create a greener Stony Plain. I encourage everyone to come out and participate in this year’s event.”
Sustainability Planner Evan Joyes explains, “Planting trees in our community is incredibly important. Not only are they great for the environment, but they help beautify our green spaces. No experience is required to help plant trees during Gather and Grow Day, just a willingness to participate!”
Residents are also encouraged to host their own neighbourhood events to spark new connections and foster community building through the Neighbourhood Connect program. Neighbourhood Connect is all about neighbours helping neighbours. Hosting a neighbourhood event is a fun and easy way to get to know people in the community.
“Gather and Grow Day is an opportunity to do just that; gather and grow with your neighbours in our community,” says Community Development Officer Deanna Butz. “If you’re interested in playing a more active role in building community in Stony Plain, stop by the event to learn about becoming a Neighbourhood Connector!”
