Jump on the Wagon and Explore Stony Plain

STONY PLAIN, AB: Are you a horse-lover interested in learning about Stony Plain’s rich history? Join one of our Horse and Wagon Tours where you can learn about Stony Plain’s past and discover the stories behind the community’s murals.

Horse and Wagon Tours are a seasonal series that work to promote Stony Plain’s history and public art. Guests can climb aboard a horse-drawn wagon and listen to a local guide share insights on cultural heritage and the history of Stony Plain’s murals as they travel down the avenues.

“Stony Plain and local organizers have worked hard to develop this creative way to both promote tourism in the community, while reflecting on our town’s broad history,” says Mayor William Choy. “The Horse and Wagon Tours are a wonderful way for residents and visitors to enjoy the summer and learn about our community.”

“Visitors from around the region come to Stony Plain to see our town’s collection of murals, each telling a unique piece of our story,” says Culture and Tourism Development Officer Chantelle Laberge. “There are over 40 murals throughout the community and what better way to view them than in a horse-drawn wagon?”

The summer tour series will run in July and August on the following dates:

  • July 8, 11:30 AM and 1PM
  • July 22, 11:30 AM and 1PM
  • August 12, 11:30 AM and 1PM
  • August 26, 11:30 AM and 1PM

The Horse and Wagon Tours are a joint initiative with the Town of Stony Plain, Red Brick Common (formerly known as the Multicultural Heritage Centre), and Mule Skinner Tours. Guests can book a tour by contacting Red Brick Common at info@redbrickcommon.ca or 780-963-2777. All tours are limited to 14 people per wagon and cost $15 per rider.
