National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Stony Plain
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Stony Plain
STONY PLAIN, AB: On September 30, from 10 AM to 12:30 PM visit Heritage Park to honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation through a morning of listening, learning, reflection, and action. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time for communities across Canada to come together to commemorate the tragic legacy of residential schools. It’s an opportunity to honour the children who never returned home, the survivors, and their families and communities. Attendees are encouraged to come wearing an orange shirt and participate in a powerful day of healing.
The event will feature a territorial welcome, tea and Bannock, reflections shared by an Elder and member of the Friends of Michel, a presentation of the video series The Reconciliation Begins With You by the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund, as well as live music.
“National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a day for us to pause and reflect,” says Mayor William Choy. “By coming together as a community, we can create meaningful opportunities for healing and learning. I encourage everyone to join us in attendance.”
“Reconciliation is not defined by a single event, but an ongoing commitment,” says Community Development Officer Deanna Butz. “This event on September 30 is about building relationships, listening to each other, and strengthening our path forward together.”
