Pickleball, Basketball and Tennis Courts Now Open in Old Town South

STONY PLAIN, AB: The Town of Stony Plain is celebrating the opening of new outdoor sport courts in Old Town South. Council and administration gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the courts.

The courts are located south of the Stony Plain Outdoor Pool near 5210 – 55 Avenue, and feature four pickleball courts and one tennis court that shares two basketball nets. The courts will be open seasonally for public use and do not require a booking or drop-in fee. Residents and visitors are reminded to bring their own equipment to enjoy the courts.

“The Old Town South courts offer an exciting recreational activity for residents in the area to enjoy,” says Jerry George, Manager of Programs and Services. “Revitalizing Old Town South with new leisure activities and recreational areas is vital to making it a hub for a wide variety of community Sports Facilities.”

The courts are part of the Old Town South Redevelopment project. This area is north of 57 Avenue, south of Brickyard Place and 55 Avenue, and west of the PERC Building. It also includes the Glenn Hall Centennial Arena, Stony Plain Outdoor Pool and Spray Park, École La Trinité, Westview School, and the new Community Recreation Facility, set to open in the fall of 2026.

“Investing in recreational spaces is investing in the future of Old Town South and the entire community,” says Mayor William Choy. “The opening of these courts is an important step forward toward our long-term vision for the area as a hub for social, cultural and recreational activities.”

The courts replace the Meridian Heights sport courts, which were removed as part of the Meridian Heights Reservoir Project.
