Regular Council Meeting Highlights for December 8, 2025

The December 8, 2025, Regular Council Meeting covered a range of updates and decisions for the Town of Stony Plain. Below is a summary of the major items discussed.

RCMP Municipal Crime Statistics Report Presented 

Inspector Kevin McGillivary presented the Stony Plain crime statistics from January to October 2025. He also spoke about how the Parkland Specialized Investigations Unit’s mandate has changed and they are taking on more investigative responsibilities. Council accepted the report for information.

Community Wide Fibre Project Update Presented

Chris Pettypiece from Fibre Connect provided an update on the project and next steps include completing the build footprint by Q2 2026, transitioning from construction to service activation, and finishing property restoration. Council accepted the update for information.

Westerra Stage 20 Land Use Bylaw Amendment Receives First Reading
Bylaw 2731/LUO/25

Council gave first reading to a proposed amendment to the Land Use Bylaw to allow additional zero lot line development areas in Westerra Stage 20 which would optimize land use, increase housing density, and provide diverse housing options. 

A public hearing will be scheduled for January 26, 2026.

Fees & Charges Bylaw Updates Approved 
Bylaw 2732/G/25

Council approved updates with amendments to the fees and charges of certain licenses, goods, and services. 

The Town supports a user fee philosophy – this means that wherever possible people who pay to use a service or program shall only pay to cover what it costs to provide the service. Administration reviews fees and charges annually.

Corporate Plan 2026-2028 Approved 

Council approved the Corporate Plan 2026-2028 which serves as the Town’s three-year roadmap, setting out the resources and priorities to guide services, processes, and projects.
