STONY PLAIN, AB: Uniquely Stony Plain Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is receiving a much-anticipated update as the Town embarks on a comprehensive engagement project to rejuvenate the plan with fresh community perspective.
Uniquely Stony Plain MDP is a community plan guiding the future growth and development of the community, specifically impacting the people, places and connections that are forged. Uniquely Stony Plain was originally written in 2013, with minor updates conducted in 2020 and 2024. The municipality’s 2026-2029 Strategic Plan highlights that Stony Plain thrives when residents feel connected, supported and empowered to participate in shaping the places where they live, work and gather. Since the original plan was developed, the community has grown substantially, and this growth will be reflected in future engagement efforts and the updated community plan.
The goal of comprehensive engagement with the community and update is to provide strategic direction for the next 30 years of the community’s growth – land development, culture, economy, environment, and governance. The Town invites residents to ten community parties taking place throughout Stony Plain in local neighbourhood parks and encourages perspective on what the future should look like.
“The community parties are a great opportunity to connect with our staff about the future of Stony Plain,” says Mayor William Choy. “We take pride in our growing and connected community. Uniquely Stony Plain is your chance to help shape Stony Plain while getting to know your neighbours, enjoying the summer and sharing your thoughts on what you care most about in our town.”
