Stony Plain Receives Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for Tenth Consecutive Year

The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CanFR) has been awarded to the Town of Stony Plain by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the 2020 Annual Report.

The CanFR Program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Reports submitted to the CanFR Program undergo an intensive review process by select members of the GFOA and a review committee. Criteria for the award includes the spirit of full disclosure designed to clearly communicate a municipality’s financial story. Only after reaching a shared consensus between the GFOA and the review panel that the submission complies with standards set by the Public Sector Accounting Board of the Chartered Professional Accountants is the award distributed.

“We are honoured to receive this award for the tenth year in a row. The Annual Report is one of the many reports Stony Plain uses to educate our community on the organization’s financial operations. Through publicly accessible financial reporting, we can strengthen our relationships and build trust with our community,” says Manager of Financial Services Teri Stewart.

The 2020 Annual Report can be viewed on the Stony Plain website.
