Stony Plain Receives Thirteenth Consecutive Canadian Award for Financial Reporting

STONY PLAIN, AB: The Town of Stony Plain has once again been recognized for excellence in financial reporting. The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the Town’s 2023 Annual Report the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR), marking the thirteenth consecutive year the Town has received the honour.

The CAnFR is presented to municipalities that go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles. Reports must be well-organized, clearly written, and effectively communicate a municipality’s financial story to its residents and stakeholders.

“The Annual Report is more than a financial document, it’s a key tool in building trust with our community,” says Teri Stewart, Manager of Financial Services. “This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to transparency and to presenting our financial information in a way that’s clear, accessible, and informative.”

“Designing a report that communicates complex financial data in a meaningful and engaging way is no small task,” says Stephanie Barsby Boisvert, Manager of Corporate Communications. “We take great care in creating a report that is not only informative but visually polished and professional.”

The CAnFR is valid for one year. The Town intends to submit the 2024 Annual Report to the GFOA in June 2025 for consideration.

The 2023 Annual Report can be viewed on the Reports, Studies and Plans page.
