Stony Plain’s Outdoor Movie Event Sure To Be Sweet Perfection!

STONY PLAIN, AB: Stony Plain’s annual Outdoor Movie is back with an oldie but a goodie on Thursday, August 21 at Heritage Park. Tim Burton’s colourful 2005 remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Johnny Depp, is a little dark, a little nutty, and totally FREE for the young and young at heart!

A delightful, jam-packed evening for Stony Plain residents and visitors alike, families can enjoy entertainment, concessions operated by the Stony Plain Youth Event Team, and of course the main feature showing of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on a new outdoor LCD screen as big as their dreams! The festivities begin at 6:30 PM with a marshmallow roast (please bring your own stick!) while local singer/songwriter Todd Wandio:Crossing Clay plays guitar around the campfire. Various activities and entertainment, including light backyard games, bubbles, and colouring for kids will be available throughout the night, as will food and drink purchasable through the Gobblestop Snack Shop concession, operated by the Stony Plain Youth Event Team. As the new LCD screen will allow for an earlier than usual start time of the movie at 8 PM, barring no spontaneous Oompa Loompa songs in response to any unforeseen chocolate mishaps, the outdoor movie event is expected to end at 10 PM.

"The Outdoor Movie is a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors to come together and enjoy a great film under the stars," says Mayor William Choy. "Pack your favourite blanket or chair, and maybe even a pocketful of candy, and join us for a memorable evening under the open sky." Event Coordinator Lori Van Dommelen adds, “Coinciding with Midsummer Thursdays and Cultural Campfires downtown, our community screening of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is sure to be the cherry on top of what promises to be a full night of family fun. And, as an extra treat to a night of joyful indulgence, this year’s event will even see a Golden Ticket prize awarded!”

Admission to the Outdoor Movie is free. Promoting a backyard feel, hay bale seating at Heritage Park is available, but limited, so guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. As the event coincides with Cultural Campfires and Midsummer Thursdays activities, attendees are also encouraged to explore downtown Stony Plain before returning to Heritage Park for the movie.
