Uniquely Stony Plain Continues with New Opportunities for Community Input

STONY PLAIN, AB: Over the summer the Town of Stony Plain completed extensive public engagement which encouraged community members, residents and interested parties to share their unique thoughts with the Municipal Development Plan project team regarding two significant questions:

  1. What do you love about Stony Plain?
  2. What are your hopes and dreams for Stony Plain?

To capture feedback on these questions, the Town hosted ten community parties, which offered refreshments, yard games, and entertainment for all ages, and also attended various other events including Midsummer Thursdays, Summer Sessions, the Mâmawihitowin Summer Gathering and the Farmers’ Day Pancake Breakfast.

“This engagement is important for informing our shared vision for the future of Stony Plain,” says Mayor William Choy. “Being able to collect such comprehensive feedback is a testament to the community pride shared by Stony Plain residents.”

Community members could also share their feedback by filling out and submitting a printed postcard or by completing an online survey.

“The community parties were a huge success, and really highlight the community’s passion for Stony Plain,” says Miles Dibble, Manager of Planning and Development. “With over 1,300 in attendance and 3,300 comments received through the entirety of engagement, the What We Learned Report now highlights the key emerging trends from this summer.”

The Town is excited to share the What We Learned Report, a comprehensive summary of the summer engagement covering methods, analysis and an emerging draft of the renewed community vision. Key directions revealed include:

  • Balancing growth while maintaining the small-town feeling
  • Expanding recreational opportunities
  • Preserving and promoting local businesses among big box growth
  • Expanding and improving the path and trail network
  • Ensuring core municipal services keep pace with growth
  • Supporting and creating opportunities for community gathering
  • Preserving Stony Plain’s heritage

Community members are invited to Town Hall for an engaging Open House on October 15 from 3 PM to 8 PM to explore the key directions and dive into the new emerging community perspective.

Can’t make it? You can still share your input by participating in the online survey, which will be available until October 26.
