Meridian Housing Foundation Presents Proposal for Affordable Seniors Housing

Council was joined by the Meridian Housing Foundation for a presentation on the Spruce Grove Lodge proposal. The seniors lodge would provide housing for functionally independent seniors living on low to moderate incomes. The 102-unit lodge in Spruce Grove would be supported by the Town of Stony Plain, City of Spruce Grove, and Parkland County. The estimated contribution from Stony Plain is $1,297,700.

2022-2025 Strategic Plan Lays the Groundwork for Stony Plain’s Future

The 2022-2025 Strategic Plan has been approved. The Strategic Plan outlines the commitments and key actions that will guide the next four years of development in Stony Plain. The plan provides direction for the development of the Corporate Plan while acknowledging the Town must be prepared to adapt to changing realities.

Town Ends 2021 with Operating Surplus

The 2021 year wrapped up with a presentation of the final operating figures. The Town ended 2021 with an operating surplus of $472,942 from budget before one-time RCMP items.

Council moved $37,500 of the surplus be transferred to a Golf Course Operating Reserve and the remainder to be transferred to the Tax Levy Stabilization Reserve. The final RCMP building costs were calculated and remaining debenture borrow approved to offset RCMP expenses.

Various factors contributed to variances from the budget including, but not limited to, an increased volume of permit revenue, reduced staffing levels, unbudgeted grants, and reduced costs related to COVID-19 restriction implications on Town-owned facilities.
