Skydancer Indigenous Cultural Society Meets with Council
Members of the Skydancer Indigenous Cultural Society introduced themselves to Council and provided an overview of the society during last night’s meeting. The newly formed organization was born in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation and supports the revival of Indigenous voices, knowledge sharing, and arts.

Procedural Bylaw Undergoes Update to Accommodate MGA Changes
The Procedural Bylaw has been updated to reflect recent changes to the Municipal Government Act (MGA). All three readings were given to update the bylaw, which was first approved in 2019. Changes to the bylaw include additional clarity, definitions, and information regarding meeting formats and requirements.
The updated bylaw will be available on the Stony Plain website.

Poverty Reduction Strategy Advances Poverty Elimination in Stony Plain
An updated Poverty Reduction Strategy has been presented to Council for information. The Stony Plain Poverty Reduction Strategy was first presented in 2021, and since then the strategy has grown to incorporate community-based insights gained through public engagement surveys, sessions, and interviews.
The updated strategy includes implementable actions to advance Stony Plain’s poverty reduction journey. These actions provide a roadmap for the municipality, community partners, and the community as a whole. Progress made toward goals outlined in the plan will be tracked and improved upon as work continues.
The updated Poverty Reduction Strategy will be available on the Stony Plain website.

Living Wage for Stony Plain Comes in at $20.40
The Alberta Living Wage Network reports the 2022 Living Wage for Stony Plain is $20.40. A presentation has been given to Council to provide an overview of living wage and how it can impact communities.
As a member of the Alberta Living Wage Network, Stony Plain participates in a collaborative calculator that identifies living wages in communities across the province. The cost of completing the calculation is shared between 24 municipalities participating in the network.
The living wage for Stony Plain reflects the hourly rate needed for a full-time employed individual to live a modest life in the community, with consideration of the costs of basic needs, housing, transportation, childcare, and healthcare.
