Stony Plain Welcomes its 41st Mural

Town Council and community members came together this morning to welcome a new creative addition to Stony Plain. The Places You’ll Go by artist Jeanine McIntosh joins the Town’s Mural Program as the 41st mural.

The Places You’ll Go is artist Jeanine McIntosh’s second mural in Stony Plain, her first work Early Trade and Commerce completed in 2003. The mural unveiling was in the spirit of Month of the Artist, a month-long celebration recognizing the value artists bring to communities across the province. Additionally, the unveiling opened Stony Plain’s Alberta Culture Days festivities taking place throughout the community from September 23 – 25.

“The Mural Program is at the core of Stony Plain’s identity, and each new mural adds to our community’s story. This new mural truly captures the imaginative spirit, and the role stories play as creative inspiration for all of us throughout our lives,” says Mayor William Choy.

“Month of the Artist presents a fantastic opportunity to spotlight local artists and acknowledge the value artists bring to communities,” says Culture and Tourism Development Officer Chantelle Laberge. “The unveiling of the new mural is a great way to kickstart the Alberta Culture Days celebration."

“It was a pleasure to work with the Town of Stony Plain to create this mural. I hope it leaves the viewer with a sense of wonder, as though reading a book and being able to cross a bridge into a different world. As a custom artist I love that all my commissions are unique, and this whimsical design was such a joy to paint,” says artist Jeanine McIntosh.

The new mural can be viewed outside the Stony Plain Public Library. Learn more about public art in our community.
