Regular Council Meeting Highlights for January 23, 2023
First Reading Given to Amend Land Use Bylaw for South Creek Development
Council has given first reading to an amendment to the Land Use Bylaw. The proposed update aims to facilitate the next stage of development in South Creek, providing for a 35-lot subdivision which would include 29 zero lot line dwellings.
A public hearing for the proposed bylaw amendment will be held on February 27, 2023 in Council Chambers.

Proposed Amendment Looks to Continue Development in Westerra
An amendment to the Land Use Bylaw has been proposed to facilitate the next stage of development in Westerra. The area impacted by the proposal is east of 48 Street and adjacent to Westerra Drive to the north. The amendment would facilitate a 31-lot subdivision, including areas for park space and utilities.
A public hearing will be held on February 27, 2023 in Council Chambers.

Dementia Connections Project Continues to Support Tri-Region Residents
An update on the Dementia Connections Project has been presented to Council. The project was created and coordinated by the Town from 2020 to 2022. Dementia Connections provided supports for community members living with dementia and their care partners, established regional connections, and increased awareness of dementia in the community.
In total,102 residents participated in project-related activities, supports were provided to 279 people, and 14 community volunteers were recruited and trained. Town staff worked alongside regional partners, including the WestView Dementia Collaborative, to build relationships and create a network of dementia supports across the region.

Town Looks to Move Forward with New Public Works Building
Design for a proposed Public Works building and site redevelopment is underway. An update has been provided to Council with a recommendation to proceed to the final design.
The Public Works site was developed in the mid-1970s, and redevelopment work has been ongoing since 2016. The project was approved for detailed design in 2020 through the Corporate Planning process. Work was undertaken in the following years to confirm facility needs and develop a phasing plan.
Following Council’s approval, Administration will move forward with finalizing design drawings.

Fourth Quarterly Report Wraps up 2022
The fourth Quarterly Report of 2022 has been presented to Council. Throughout the year, reports are compiled to track progress toward strategic goals and highlight achievements across the organization.
