Starting July 25, 2026, residential speed limits in Stony Plain will be reduced from 50 km/h to 40 km/h.
This community-wide change is intended to improve road safety, reduce the likelihood and severity of collisions and help make neighbourhood streets safer for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and all road users.
The new 40 km/h speed limit applies to all local and collector roads in residential areas, except Glory Hill Road, from Highway 16A to the south cul-de-sac.
Provincial highways, arterial roads, school zones and playground zones remain unchanged.
The Town of Stony Plain is committed to enhancing road safety and supporting livable neighbourhoods for all residents.

On April 27, 2026, Town Council approved a reduction in posted speed limits from 50 km/h to 40 km/h on all local roads and most collector roads within residential areas.
The decision followed a 2025 speed study of local and collector roads in Stony Plain, which identified opportunities to improve road safety and support more consistent operating speeds in residential areas.
Existing residential speed limit signs will be updated to reflect the new 40 km/h limit.
Drivers are expected to follow posted speeds as signage is updated.
