Updates to Land Use Bylaw Make Way for Stony Plain’s New Housing Strategy

A public hearing for the Land Use Bylaw was held at last night’s Council Meeting. The bylaw was also given second and third reading. The update has been brought forward as a new bylaw that repeals the current bylaw for the purpose of implementing Stony Plain’s new Housing Strategy. The Housing Strategy guides the Town’s approach in meeting housing goals and informs land use development decisions.

First reading of the Land Use Bylaw update was given at the February 14, 2022 Council Meeting and following the reading, Administration underwent significant background work to gain an understanding of related challenges and best practices. A series of amending motions were presented during second and third readings. Council made two amendments to the Land Use Bylaw prior to its adoption.

2022 Spring Budget Adjustments See Funding Transfer from Capital Equipment Reserve

An adjustment to the 2022 budget has been approved by Council. The 2022-2024 Corporate Plan was approved at the November 29, 2021 Council Meeting which sets the budget for the upcoming years. Following Corporate Plan approval, Administration continues to monitor the Town’s budget for new information and factors that impact future needs.

Currently, the main budgetary impact for 2022 is capital vehicle and equipment purchases with tenders for equipment coming in higher than budget. The total implication is an increase of $51,880 across Accessible Transportation Service (ATS) and the Recreation and Public Works departments.

A motion has been passed to fund costs through the Capital Equipment Reserve. This decision will not impact taxation for 2022.

Strategic and Corporate Plan Q1 Reports Kick Off 2022

The first quarterly reports for the Strategic Plan and the Corporate Plan have been presented. Throughout the year, updates are provided to Council to share updates and track progress toward achieving strategic and developmental goals.

The next quarterly update will be presented to Council in July of 2022.
