While COVID has grabbed headlines, there is another public health crisis happening in our community that far fewer people are willing to talk about – suicide. In Stony Plain and the Tri-Region, suicide has claimed the lives of people young and old, from diverse backgrounds and across socio-economic lines and has left a lasting impact on many others.
A new initiative known as the ‘Shop Hard in Stony Plain Campaign’ is being launched by the Town of Stony Plain. The campaign intends to incentivize area residents to support Stony Plain businesses and keep supporting local top of mind by offering prizes, increasing online exposure, highlight shopping opportunities, and offering a way for businesses to reconnect with customers.
Alberta Transportation has provided the following important update to the construction on Highway 779. Today, crews will be placing mulch in the median, between 55 and 52 Avenue.
Foaming is done and manholes have been reset. Crews are now prepping for paving which will occur in the coming weeks.
Fire Services Bylaw Returns to Council Chambers. The Fire Services Bylaw returned to Council last night for second and third reading.
Stony Plain’s own Stephanie Labbé is bringing home the gold!. Stephanie Labbé, goalkeeper for the Canadian Women’s Soccer team, helped Canada claim the gold medal in a tense penalty kick shootout against Sweden on day 14 of the Tokyo Olympics.
Alberta Transportation has updated the Town on the Highway 779 construction project. The multi-use trail along 79 Avenue between Willow Way and 48 Street has been constructed and paved and is now open for use.
Microsurfacing in residential areas has been primarily completed. The contractor is currently repairing deficiencies in some areas.
Starting today, foaming will take place on Golf Course Road and continue until early next week. At that point, final paving will commence.
