RCMP Presentation Provides Closer Look at Second Quarter Activity
Inspector Lokken provided Council with an overview of second quarter police activity. Reports are provided throughout the year to monitor crime statistics and trends in the community.
The next presentation will be brought to Council in December.

Brickyard Road Closure Moves Forward for Application to Ministry
The public hearing for the Road Closure Bylaw – The Brickyard at Old Town Stage 5 was held during last night’s meeting. No comments from the public were received from the notification of the bylaw.
Amendments to The Brickyard at Old Town Area Structure Plan and Land Use Bylaws were approved by Council at the June 13, 2022 meeting. The updates facilitate the extension of Brickyard Drive and residential development.
Administration will move forward with an application to the Minister of Transportation. If approval is received from Alberta Transportation, the bylaw will be presented to Council for second and third reading.

Property Assessment Sub-Class Bylaw Addresses Vacant Land Taxation
First, second, and third readings were given to the Property Assessment Sub-class Bylaw. The bylaw allows for the creation of sub-classes within residential and non-residential classes for taxation purposes.
The main revision to the bylaw is the creation of the vacant land sub-class under both residential and non-residential classes. This revision complements the Taxation of Vacant Lands policy that goes into effect for the 2022 assessment year to be implemented in 2023. The new sub-class will be identified for applicable property owners on their assessment notice.

Minor Updates Introduced to Cannabis Consumption Bylaw
Council gave first, second, and third readings to the Cannabis Consumption Bylaw. A minor update to the bylaw was recommended by Administration to update wording and introduce a slight fine increase consistent with increases in provincial cannabis-related fines.
The updated bylaw will be available on the Stony Plain website.

Council Explores Options for Outdoor Pool Covering
Developing a regional recreation facility is a priority identified in the Strategic Plan 2022-2025. The project encompasses three phases which includes planning for an aquatic facility. In addition to developing a new recreation centre, Council directed Administration to explore the covering of the existing Stony Plain Outdoor Pool.
Administration presented two options for the covering, including a removable air supported structure and a more permanent structure. Council will continue to explore options for the outdoor pool covering during future strategic planning sessions.

Q2 Report Provides Overview of Organizational Activity
The second Quarterly Report for 2022 was presented to Council. Throughout the year, Administration compiles and presents reports outlining department activities, statistics, and achievements. This report serves as a measurement tool to monitor progress of the current budget and provides Council with updates from each of the Town’s departments.

Strategic Plan and Corporate Plan Q2 Reports Track Progress
An overview of progress made toward the Town’s strategic goals was presented to Council last night. Strategic Plan and Corporate Plan quarterly updates are presented throughout the year to track progress and plan for the next stages of development.
The third quarterly report will be presented to Council in October.
