Hall Park is named in honour of Doug and Leona Hall. Doug and Leona made Stony Plain their home in 1970, raising their four children here and dedicating their lives to the community. Doug served as principal of Stony Plain Junior High until 1985, later serving on Town Council and even as Acting Mayor. He helped bring both the mural program and the Shikaoi Exchange to life, initiatives that remain cornerstones of Stony Plain’s identity today. Leona was a nurse at the Stony Plain Hospital and gave her time generously to causes like the Multicultural Centre (now Red Brick Common), the library board, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Together, Doug and Leona were active in their church, community events, and countless volunteer efforts.
Doug was also known for his love of golf, often teaching kids and grandkids how to play behind their home, right here in this park. That makes today especially meaningful, as we dedicate Hall Park in their memory, a place where community, play, and connection continue to grow, just as Doug and Leona always encouraged.
