Who can participate in the Bike Repair Program?
The Bike Repair Program is open to youth ages 11–17.
Do I need any experience working on bikes?
No experience is necessary! This program is designed for beginners and those looking to build on their existing bike maintenance skills.
What will I learn?
Participants will learn a variety of basic bike maintenance and repair skills, which may include:
- Identifying bicycle parts and their functions
- Tire and tube repair
- Brake adjustments
- Chain maintenance and lubrication
- Basic troubleshooting
Do I need to bring my own bike?
Bringing your own bike is encouraged; however, participants who do not have a bike will be matched with one through the program. Throughout the course, they will learn to repair and maintain that bike, and upon successful completion of the program, they will be able to keep it.
Having a bike to take home provides an excellent opportunity to continue practicing the skills learned during the program and build confidence with ongoing maintenance and repairs.
If you do not have a bike, please indicate this during registration so the Youth Centre can ensure a bike is available for you at the start of the program. 🚲🔧
What should I bring?
Participants should bring:
- Their bike (if available). If participants do not have a bike, they will be matched with a bike through the program that they can learn to repair and maintain, and keep upon completion of the program. Please indicate during registration if you require a program bike.
- A helmet (if available). If participants for not have a helmet, on will be provided to the through the program.
- Closed-toe shoes
- Clothes suitable for hands-on activities and getting a little dirty 🔧🚲
- A water bottle
Participants should come ready to learn, work with tools, and have fun building valuable bike maintenance skills!
Are tools provided?
Yes! The Bike Shop will provide the tools and equipment needed for learning and completing basic repairs during the program.
Will I be repairing my own bike?
Whenever possible, participants will have the opportunity to work on their own bikes while learning repair and maintenance techniques.
Is the program free?
Yes. This program is proudly funded by the Home Depot Orange Door Project.
Do I need to register in advance?
Yes. Pre-registration is required as space may be limited.
Do I need a Youth Centre Membership?
Yes. All participants must have a current Youth Centre Membership prior to attending the program.
What if my bike needs major repairs?
The program focuses on basic maintenance and repair skills. If your bike requires extensive repairs or replacement parts, staff can help identify the issue and provide guidance on next steps.
What are the benefits of taking this program?
Participants will:

- Keep their bikes in safe working condition
Do you provide tune-ups or repairs for bikes that are not part of the program?
At this time, tune-ups and repairs are only offered to participants enrolled in the Bike Repair Program. The Bike Shop serves as a hands-on learning environment where youth practice maintenance and repair skills on their own bikes or the bikes provided through the program. We are not currently able to provide repair services for the general public. 🚲🔧
