Sports Facilities

The Town of Stony Plain maintains a diverse selection of indoor and outdoor facilities. Whether for sports and recreational use, or to host an event, there are a wide variety of facilities to meet your needs. Recreation facilities are available for public use, schools, group booking, and private rentals.

Arena

The Glenn Hall Centennial Arena is located at 5300-52 Street. Named for NHL Hockey Hall of Famer and hometown hero—Mr. Goalie—Glenn Hall Centennial Arena features an 80-foot mural celebrating his career and life in Stony Plain.

Rules and Regulations 

Glenn Hall Centennial Arena is available for group and private rentals. Arena Rental Rates are subject to annual increase.

Ice season runs late-August to late-March, with dry floor rental available mid-April to July. Regular season ice is primarily scheduled for local sport organizations (September to March on weeknights and weekends).

Free sponsored Public Skating at Glenn Hall Centennial Arena runs seasonally from September to March. Doors open 15 minutes prior to start time.

For the safety of all skaters, hockey sticks and pucks are not permitted during public skating. Helmets are not mandatory but strongly encouraged for children's safety.

Public Skating times are as follows:

Mondays:  3:30 PM to 5:00 PM

Tuesdays: 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM (Parent-Tot Skate)

Wednesdays: 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM

Thursdays: 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM

Saturdays: 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Please note that Public Skating will not be available on the following dates:

  • December 25
  • January 1
  • January 17

Sparky’s Shack is open inside the Glenn Hall Centennial Arena for skate sharpening with the following 2025/2026 season scheduled hours:

Mondays: 3:30 to 8:00 PM

Thursdays: 3:30 to 8:00 PM
Fridays: 3:30 to 8:00 PM
Saturdays: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Sundays: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM

Outdoor Rinks

The following outdoor rinks and ice surfaces are currently OPEN:  Centennial Memorial (behind Glenn Hall Arena) and Rotary Park.

All other outdoor skating surfaces are CLOSED.

The Town of Stony Plain operates eight outdoor ice surfaces which are opened to the public seasonally, weather permitting (December to March).

Locations

Maintenance & Closure Guidelines

  • Please stay off surfaces during morning maintenance from 6:00 AM to Noon daily
  • Weather conditions (i.e. heavy snowfall) may delay daily rink maintenance
  • Ice surfaces are closed and not maintained for use when the weather is below -20 degrees with windchill or during heavy snowfall
  • Use ice surfaces at your own risk and observe rink signage and guidelines

The Centennial Memorial Outdoor Rink is available for rental during the winter skating season as weather permits (December to March) on Thursday's between 7:00 to 9:30 PM.

Outdoor Pool

Located at 5210-55 Avenue, the Stony Plain Outdoor Pool has been making a splash in the community for more than 50 years. The Town of Stony Plain works collaboratively with the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre to operate the six-lane outdoor pool from mid-May to the end of August.

The Stony Plain Outdoor Pool and Rotary Park Spray Park are currently CLOSED for the season.
